Puppy, made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 on August 8, 1964. Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote the emotional tune, a version of which the Rockin’ Berries recorded in the U.K. “He’s in Town” describes a boy’s anxiety after his girlfriend’s former flame returns after an absence. The recording, distinguished by beautiful harmonies, reached No. 43 and remained on the chart for 8 weeks.
