I’m very sad to learn of the passing of Jay Traynor, I was on the June cruise last year with your group and was fortunate to have a picture taken with the group and a seperate one with me and Jay Traynor. My prayers are with his family, may he rest in peace!

    Hello Jay,

I would just like to say that it is so nice to see a group smartly dressed with nice suits on these days! I have only recently discovered you and your Tokens on YouTube when I was looking for the song ‘wimoweh’, because I have always loved that song! So now you have a new fan and I hope that one day I will be able to see you perform in concert! I really love your voice Jay and your Tokens also have great voices – what a refreshing change to discover some real talent!

Good luck with all your concerts this year,

    Bye for now,
    Diana x

Last evening I attended The Tokens’ show in El Paso, Texas.- Showtime El Paso My husband of 44 years passed away just 2 weeks ago and so, some of the songs were difficult for me as he and I often sang to and danced to them. I had the feeling throughout the entire show that the group truly enjoyed each other and what they were doing. That made it all the more enjoyable. I had a great time and though it was painful and tear provoking for me at times throughout the show, it also made me feel like my husband was there with me. Thanks for a great time.

  13. Lynne Raisley April 6, 2014 1:53 pm #

I really like the songs you do. These bring back memories of a time when songs were songs and not loud noise with no meaning. I would love to see you in Charleston, SC. Lynne Raisley

Your show last night in Maumee was awesome. Jay you and the guys clicked on all cylinders.I was especially touched by your tribute to Jay Traynor. ” She Cried” brought a tear to all of us. Come on back to Maumee anytime. Ron Arnett.

Jay and guys … will you bring a female soprano to Vegas in 3 weeks ? In the past you’ve had Anita , Donna , and on at least one occasion an attractive unnamed blonde lady . Whatta ya say guys ?

  18. Peter August 27, 2014 6:46 pm #

You guys never stop impressing me.I am so looking forward to seeing you guys at Mohegan Sun in Jan.I only wish your group would do more tours in Connecticut….God Bless

Sorry to hear of the legal troubles between you and the Margo Brothers. I know you are the true original, and in my mind, it would not be a Tokens concert without JAY SIEGEL singing THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT. Hopefully next time I see you in concert, there won’t be a severe thunderstorm in the forecast. I think THE BIG E concert 2 years ago set a record for rock stars using the name JAY. Imagine if Sandy Deanne’s Jay & The Americans were there too.

  20. Jim Conrad November 7, 2014 8:11 am #

Jay, on one video of The Lion Sleeps Tonight you have a lovely blonde soprano singing. Can you tell us who she is? She is just incredible. She must perform somewhere professionally with a voice like that.

    • Jay Siegel November 7, 2014 7:36 pm #

      A studio singer from Pittsburgh

      • Jim Conrad November 9, 2014 5:26 am #

Jay do you have a name? I am so impressed with her singing – I would really love to find more of her performances. I would think she sings with some group. If you are reluctant to post her name here please send it to my email address or you can forward my request to her. I was simply blown away with how beautiful her voice is and how beautifully she hit those notes.

        • Jay Siegel November 9, 2014 12:41 pm #

          Sorry, I don’t

          • Jim Conrad November 22, 2014 8:03 pm

Jay there are a lot of people who would love to know who she is. Can you tell me who I could contact to find out what her name is? Whoever booked her with you may be able to help. Thank you.

        • Rob April 26, 2015 6:09 am #

Did you ever find out her name?

When I was young I listened to The Lion Sleeps Tonight SO MUCH, I drove my family crazy! To this day my sister has this song programmed into her phone so she knows when I’m calling! It’s still one of my favorites and I now have my grandsons listening to it! I’ve always wondered who the woman is that sang those really high notes?? Hard as I try, I just can’t sing along with her! : ) Thank you for the memories!

    Hi Jay,
First of all this is so great how you interact with your fans.I was on the earlier this year with all of the other wonderful groups and had a blast.Ready to go next year.I’ might have mentioned to you how when The Lion Sleeps Tonite first came out my friends and my self thought you were saying wim o wet!WE were in the back seat of my friends baby sitters car singing wim o wet at the top of of our lungs and finally the sitter turned around and in a rather scolding voice said “I wish you boys would just hurry up and wet!”Had a blast listening to your stories as well as those from Boom Boom.Hopefully see you in Sept.Keep on Rockin!

Jay, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed your interview with Mr. 50’s on Baruch University’s radio station (WBMB) this afternoon. It was informative, entertaining, enjoyable and I love “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. One of my all time favorite songs. I’ve been singing it all night long! Can’t wait to see you on Long Island in 2016. Keep doing what you’re doing – you’re music makes me happy too! Warm regards, Lou

I just this week meet a Jay Leslie who told me he was the original lead singer for the group. Is Jay Siegel and Jay Leslie the same person?

    • Jay Siegel March 15, 2016 11:56 am #

Jay Leslie was NOT in the original Tokens.. Jay Siegel was always the lead vocalist & a founding member of the group…

      • Luann March 19, 2016 5:45 am #

Thank you. He did take a picture with me, but he was not very friendly. LION is a song I have sang for years, and my Sweet Adeline group sings it. I saw him several more times but he would not even speak. Really left a sour taste in my mouth for the Tokens. Does Jay Siegel not sing with them anymore? Is this guy lead singer now?

        • Jay Siegel March 19, 2016 11:32 am #

Jay Siegel is on tour all the time with his TOKENS

        • Laurie Krommendijk October 19, 2017 3:15 pm #

No way Luanne! Jay Siegel IS the lead singer of the Tokens and always will be! Maybe this Leslie guy was/is with Mitch Margo’s Tokens group? Grrr rankles my skin that Mitch Margo can use that great name for HIS group! Bet they don’t get near the amount of bookings as Jay Siegel’s group does! But….that name, Jay Leslie….does sounds familiar to me for some reason…..hmmm

          • Laurie Krommendijk October 19, 2017 3:17 pm

Oops! I’m sorry I spelled your name wrong Luann!

I love the 50’s and 60’s music and have caught many of the acts of that era.

The show I attended tonight at the Grand Falls Casino was as good as it gets. Jay’s falsetto is superb and pure. The vocal harmonies were exquisite, ranging from simple chords to complex voicings…all of it smooth and spot on. These guys are the cream of the crop…and fun to watch, and presented a perfect balance of music, fun stories and history. They were gracious and humble at the autograph table as well.

I hope to see them again.

Who was the gorgeous blond female singer who stood slightly behind the group in one of your videos of the Lion Sleeps Tonight.? Her voice is awesome. I keep watching this video and then go to work and get into trouble from the other staff for doing falsetto woo woo’s in the mortuary of the song. Lucky my client’s are deceased or there might be a rapid exit. Haha. Great song and band.

Had the pleasure of sitting directly behind you and your wife at Tony Orlando’s concert last month at Mohegan Sun. Just kind of thought you and your wife were two ordinary people until Tony introduced you and called you up on stage. You were great! Brought back so many memories of the sixties. Needless to say it was an absolute pleasure to hear you sing again, never mind sitting behind a celebrity and his lovely adorable wife. God Bless you. Thanks again.

Hi there! I wish you guys could come perform in Canada, in Calgary, Alberta. I would love to watch you sing in person. I love to watch you guys sing, and your stage antics are the best! I love how Jay seems to love to play the audience and how blissfully happy he looks when he’s singing. What a stage presence! I can only imagine what it must be like to be there in person! I think I’ve now watched every video of you all that I could find on YouTube. You guys are my go-to music when I get upset. Nothing like a good dose of your kind of doo-wop to calm and relax me, and especially a few listens to The Lion Sleeps Tonight. I hope and pray that you all get to keep performing for as long as you can. Love you all. God Bless. Laurie Krommendijk.

  47. Laurie Krommendijk October 2, 2017 7:28 am #

    P.S. I’ve been listening to your songs since I was 13. I’m now 56.

    • Jay Siegel October 2, 2017 12:32 pm #

Thank you Laurie for that very nice message.. We hope to come to Canada in the near future & would love to say “Hello” in person to you.. Jay Siegel

      • Laurie Krommendijk October 19, 2017 7:39 am #

        Dear Mr. Siegel,
Oh great. More celeb ego platitudes. Aw geez, who do you think you’re kidding, Mr. Siegel? I checked your guys’ bookings on this website, and you’re booked all the way through 2019! You’ll never make it up here and you know it.

I’m sorry, I guess I don’t think much of the U.S. anymore, no insult intended on you guys, cause I have a feeling you love the place.
I AM an American by birth, but have been up here in Canada since the age of 6. So I consider this my home and my loyalty is here. I hope to get duel citizenship someday since I don’t yet formally have Canadian citizenship. My parents never wanted it, they were proud Americans, so they never got it. So I’m still a landed immigrant by status. I just have to finish working on getting my permanent resident card, to prove I live here permanently, and have no plans to leave here. Which I don’t. I love it here, feel safe here, always have. But the government here charges $600 to apply, which I think is obscene and outlandish, but what you do, right?
I’m on low-income Disabilty because I’ve battled mental depression, BPD (borderline personality disorder), anxiety, and panic attacks, since childhood. My therapist says it’s because I was the target of school bullies for years growing up. So I can’t hold a job, never could.
The only thing that really keeps me alive is my only son, Kyle. Him I’ve stuck around for because he needs me. He has aspergers which is a form of autism. He is now 25 years of age. His dad has it, too, and resulted in our getting divorced 16 years ago, because he became physically abusive to me. I guess it’s better not to be married than have that.
Anyway, I guess I’ve gone on enough here.
If you do manage to make it to Canada someday, great. Please know that you all have a friend up here. If not, well, I’ll just keep listening and watching on YouTube, even though I’ve seen everything I can find on you guys already. I must have watched that “Wimoweh: the Jay Siegel story” about 5 or 6 times now, in the last couple of months! Lol! I like your current stuff the best. Oh, and I’m sorry about Jay Traynor. What a loss! A man of incredible talent! I wish I could sing like that, or like any of you.

I’ve always loved singing but I suck at it. So I very much admire anyone who can get up there and do it. I wanted music lessons but daddy always said it would be a waste of his good money, that I’d never amount to anything. He said the same to my big brother, Michael. Michael died of a massive heart attack 2 years ago and I miss him. I miss my parents, too. My sister isn’t speaking to me, and my little brother lives in another city.
I’m glad you enjoy your life and your work. I wish I enjoyed mine. Maybe the new meds will kick in soon and I will, don’t know.
But I want you to know that watching you guys perform on stage brings me joy. And you all aren’t bad “eye candy” as they say, either. My heart still does flip-flops every time I watch the videos, cause you all look so good. You’re wife is a lucky lady. Are the other two married, too? Lol, just kidding! I’m not on the hunt right now but I do know good looking men when I see them lol.
Anyway, I hope this wasn’t too tedious for you to read. I just wanted you to know a little about me. So if you did manage to wade through all this, thanks for reading!

        Sincere regards,
        Laurie Krommendijk

P.S. I’m trying to learn to play the guitar – but so far I suck at that, too! ☺️

          • Jay Siegel October 19, 2017 12:34 pm

Keep at the Guitar Laurie.. It’s good for your head & soul.. Hopefully our management will be able to secure a booking in your neck of the woods.. Love to meet you one day.. Jay

Oh gosh, thanks for being so nice Mr. Siegel! I was thinking maybe that last giant post was inapropriate. I came back here to see if I could delete it, because I felt guilty and stupid about posting such a thing in your nice guestbook. And I figured you guys would think I’m a total psycho if you read it, and I thought maybe I could delete it before you saw it. But there doesn’t seem to be any way for the person posting to delete their entry. That’s too bad cause I feel like a dummy for spilling my guts like that. Well, if you want to delete it, it’s ok with me and I wouldn’t blame you a bit, Mr. Siegel. Thank you again for being so nice. It’s very refreshing!

    • Laurie Krommendijk October 19, 2017 3:00 pm #

Hey, I just noticed the times on these postings. Wow, must be quite a time difference wherever this site originates from. It’s only 8:57 AM here. Got a ways to go before it gets to 2:52 PM. Oh well, the days are only a year long so not too bad I guess.
